League Set-up

For the first time, our league is broken up into two divisions, which will be selected at random by myself and at least one other league member present. The purpose of this is to begin to form rivalries within our league.
The top three teams in each division will make the playoffs, with both top seeds receiving a first round bye. During the regular season, the schedule will be set-up so that you play your division foes more often than the other division. Exact schedule will be made closer to the season.
Each weekly matchup is Head-to-Head format, with 16 categories (8 offensive and 8 pitching) determining the final score. All tiebreakers in the playoffs are decided by Yahoo’s playoff tiebreaker rules.

League Scoring

Here are the categories for offense:
Batting average, on base percentage, runs, RBI, hits, total bases, HR’s, stolen bases

Here are the categories for pitching:
Wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, WHIP, saves, holds, K/9, ERA

Add/Drops and Waivers

Our league has unlimited adds/drops throughout the season. As for waivers, when a player is released, he is on waivers for two days. The waiver order is based on the draft at first. Meaning the team with the #1 pick is last in waiver order. Once that team uses a waiver claim successfully, they move to last on the waiver order, and every other team moves up one spot.

The Draft

The draft will be held on March 16th, 2008 at 6:00 PM. It will be strictly an online draft using Yahoo Fantasy Baseball. There will be 23 rounds in total, and the draft will be snake style (round one 1-12, round two 12-1, etc…) Last year’s traded draft picks will be inserted accordingly.

This year, the keeper round STARTS IN ROUND 10, INCLUDING ROUND 10. This allows those with the worst draft positions to draft keepers sooner.

Due to the incapability on Yahoo’s draft board for the commissioner to edit draft picks, we will be using ESPN's Fantasy Baseball to complete the draft online. So, everyone must sign in ASAP to ESPN as well. Then I will transfer the draft results over to Yahoo shortly thereafter.

Keepers

For the first time in our league’s history, teams have the choice to keep three players from last year’s team drafted AFTER the 10th round. I have last year’s draft printed out, so any questions, you can email me. These players must be announced by March 1st, or you get no keepers at all. For each player you keep, you lose a pick at the end of the draft. For example, if Greg keeps three players, he loses his 21st, 22nd, and 23rd round picks.

A new rule I am implementing is the three year contract rule for keepers. For example, I am keeping Hunter Pence this year, which means he is entering the second year of his contract. He is then eligible to be kept through the third year of his contract, and must be released into the free agent pool in 2010. So, if Hunter Pence is traded or dropped, he remains a keeper for the 3 year term. It is the commissioner’s responsibility to keep track of the contracts of all players.

As for 2008, any team may keep up to three additional players drafted AFTER the 10th round. The same three year contract rule applies to these players.

However, for 2009 there will be only 4 total keepers allowed to be carried over from the 2008 rosters. Remember, a maximum of 3 players drafted from the 2008 draft only.

Trading of future draft picks

Each year, every team is permitted ONE trade involving a future draft pick. ALL TRADES ARE SUBJECT TO VETO BY THE COMMISSIONER. Any trade deemed harmful to the league or a dump trade can be vetoed by the commissioner.
If a fantasy player trades a pick, they must receive another pick in return. For example, if Dan trades his 2009 4th round pick to Bob, Bob must then inherit one of Dan’s 2009 picks as well.
Trading of draft picks prior to the 2008 draft is allowed, but this must take place at least 1 week prior to the draft and you must inform the commissioner.

Trading of Keepers

You may trade as many as five legitimate keeper eligible players (as determined by Commish). However, all keeper trades like any other trade is subject to veto by the commish if deemed a "dump trade".
Additionally you can only trade two players listed on the Yahoo "Can't Cut List" in one season.

Disabled List

Each team has two (2) disabled list spots. A player must actually be on the DL in real life. Any team that keeps a player in that spot if they are not on the DL will receive a penalty as follows:
1st offense: $10 penalty
2nd offense: $10 penalty plus loss of that player to the free agent pool

New Rule: Pending allowance by Yahoo, anytime a player is PLACED on the DL in midweek, a team is now allowed to insert a player FROM THEIR BENCH ONLY (not via free agency) into the lineup for the remainder of the week. You must inform the commish who will make the change.

Rosters

Our roster will consist of the following:

Starters:
C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, OF,OF,OF, Utility
5 starting pitchers, 3 relief pitchers (including closers or middle relievers)

Bench:

6 players of any position

All roster moves must be made by Sunday night by midnight. Our statistical week goes from Monday through Sunday, except for opening week which goes from Sunday to Sunday.

Roster Violations

One major roster violation we have had is teams putting actual starting pitchers into our relief pitcher spot on the roster. We all know this is a violation, so any team that does this will lose a SP spot the next time they play the same team. Additionally, the standings will be adjusted by the commissioner to award 3 wins to the opposing team and 3 losses to the violating team.
Any team that purposely leaves their roster empty at any point in the season will be automatically thrown out of the league, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Playoffs

The playoff format is as follows:

The two divisions are the Clemens Division (C) and the McNamee Division (M)

C1 and M1 get first round byes

First round:

Game 1: C2 vs C3
Game 2: M2 vs M3

2nd round:

C1 vs Game 1 winner
M1 vs. Game 2 winner

Championship:

Clemens Division Champ vs McNamee Division Champ

Final Comments

Please do not give up at the end of the season. It ruins the entire season for everyone if you are in last and facing the #6 seed in Week 22 and leave three guys in that are on the DL. I will keep track of this as best I can.
Good luck and remember I made this rulebook to avoid controversy. There will be no voting in the middle of the season to add or change rules to this rulebook. You can contact me through email at mevangelist@hotmail.com or call me at (617) 699-4178.
